Kim
has a biomedical engineering background and is now pursuing Ph.D. in mechanical
engineering at
University
of
Utah
. He is currently working on a project that involves the implementation of a
microscale system for DNA extraction and amplification. This project use a
nanoporous membrane that will be implemented in a microscale system, extract the
DNA using the membrane, amplify the DNA using PCR or a similar technique, and
monitor the reaction in real time using optics. All of these functions will be
completed in one chamber and will be accomplished rapidly.
